Garnerville Arts & Industrial Center is home to a thriving community of artists and artisans who create and exhibit their works in this landmark, pre-civil war factory complex. Painters, sculptors, photographers, jewelry makers, potters, wood and metal artisans, composers, writers and set designers have replaced the knitters and weavers that once worked in the aerie lofts of this former textile mill. Described as an “artistic oasis” by Gannett’s Journal News; and “our favorite place to get some culture” by Rockland Magazine, Garnerville Arts & Industrial Center is a magnet for businesses of all kinds, whether creative or technological.
Artist Studio Features
Artist studio spaces are available in many shapes and sizes, but commonly feature high ceilings, large windows, slop sinks and oversized doors. Artists may enjoy the privacy of their studios while having the opportunity to interact, network, collaborate and even exhibit with fellow artists. Access is 24 hours, 7 days per week, and the complex is gated and patrolled 24/7.
GARNER Arts Center
Garnerville Arts & Industrial Center is home to GARNER Arts Center, a tax exempt 501(c) (3), not-for-profit arts organization. Garnerville Arts & Industrial Center and its resident artists and artisans work together with GARNER (formerly GAGA) Arts Center to sponsor an annual Open Studio/Arts Festival. GARNER Arts Festival, a much-anticipated regional event, attracts nearly 5000 visitors each year. Live music, dance, film, kids’ art workshops, artistic demonstrations, 50 open artist studios and major exhibitions mark this signature event. Other open studio opportunities exist throughout the year.
building 35 and Dye Works Gallery
Garnerville Arts & Industrial Center has donated two gallery spaces to GARNER Arts Center. Building 35 was the former mill’s cafeteria. Brick-walled, 2,800 square feet in size with 5 large factory windows and two open storys, the factory cafeteria is now being renovated to create a dynamic new gallery for the Arts Center. The second gallery space, the Dye Works Gallery is a one-of-a kind space. Nearly 8,000 square feet with a towering wood-beamed ceiling, this gallery is perfect for salon shows and other art and music events.
CREEKSIDE is a lovely sculpture trail and nature walk located on the grounds of the Garnerville Arts & Industrial Center, and operated by GARNER Arts Center. Created by volunteers and with donations of materials and native plants from area businesses, it is like having your own secret garden out the back door of your business. Summertime brings the annual CREEKSIDE Under the Stars event, an evening of live, professional music on the edge of the creek. Bring your lawn chair or blanket and sit back and enjoy!
